This Frappato speaks through its amazingly intense aromas. Frappato is especially delicious during warm seasons when it can be chilled a bit and served with appetizers, pasta salads, grilled poultry, and fish dishes with tomatoes or tomato relishes. The vineyard is located at Passopisciaro on the northeast slope of Mt. Etna at meters or 1, feet above sea level. Of volcanic origin, the soils are black and sandy and rich in iron and nitrogen.
The wine is made naturally without commercial yeasts. Serve chilled with foods of the season, fish and fresh cheeses, such as mozzarella with tomatoes, basil, and a drizzle of olive oil. The wine was aged for one year in French oak barrels.
In the mouth, the wine is dry and intriguing, medium bodied at Decant and serve in large glasses at cool room temperature. Grown at meters 1, feet on the slopes of Etna, the fruit produces rich bitter cherry flavors that have depth and intensity. Known for its haunting aromas, this Graci Nerello Mascalese has spicy nuances of lava in the nose. So as not to interfere with its delicate flavors, the winemaker avoided small oak barrels during its aging.
Instead the Arcuria was aged for 14 months in large wooden tini, made from Nevers oak by Austrian cooper Stockinger. With roots that meander deep into the rocky volcanic soil, this Graci Nerello Mascalese produces flavors that are a direct transformation of its extraordinary environment.
Because Sicilia is on a crossroads between Europe and Africa, it has been overrun by many different cultures, which have left their traces on this beautiful island, the largest in the Mediterranean. The Greek cities of Sicily flourished during the 6th and 5th Centuries BC, and their ruins are some of the most impressive outside of Greece, especially the Valley of the Temples near Agrigento.
The Arabs ruled from the 8th to the 11th Century, although not much has survived from their rule. The Norman era began in , and the cathedrals of Monreale and Cefalu are their brilliant achievements as is Santi Peitro e Paulo outside Taormina. The 17th and 18th centuries saw the accomplishments of the Spanish Viceregal court, especially the palaces and churches of Palermo. On the palate you'll find fascinating, delicate notes of tobacco, red currants, red pepper, and anise. This radiant red, the Gulfi winery's entry-level Nero d'Avola, offers juicy raspberry fruit, lively acidity, and a touch of spice.
This is a wine that benefits from air: try it before and after decanting and you'll taste the difference. Insolia, Case Ibidini, Valle dell'Acate - The first female winemaker in her family, sixth-generation producer Gaetana regards the Casa Ibidini wines as "la chiave di casa mia" or "the key to my house," and an open bottle should make you feel as comfortable as you would as a guest in her home in Sicily. Rossojbleo, Gulfi - This radiant red, the Gulfi winery's entry-level Nero d'Avola, offers juicy raspberry fruit, lively acidity, and a touch of spice. A very good Grillo wine. Spicy and leafy nuances complicate aromas and flavors of ripe red and black cherry, coffee and cocoa. Polished on the palate, with bright, harmonious acidity and smooth tannins providing solid supporting backbone.
The long finish shows a peppery edge. Mineral-tinged aromas of red berries and flowers show a slightly green edge. Then richer and brighter on the palate, with the ripe red fruit flavors complicated by deep herbal and tarry nuances. Finishes a bit hot, with only moderate length for an important wine. Over ripe aromas and flavors of dried red cherry, raisins and sweet spices.
Enters the mouth soft and ripe, but then turns tough and tannic on the back half. This wine lacks nuance and grace today: is it possible that a couple more years in bottle will help turn it around? Finishes long and clean with a bright floral echo.
A stellar Frappato that makes it impossible to put the glass down. Well-knit and balanced, ending with a lightly smoky finish. Drink nowthrough Tasted twice, with consistent notes. The smooth, juicy palate delivers concentrated raspberry and black cherry flavors, with hints of licorice and Mediterranean herbs.

Annuario dei migliori Vini italiani Pocket — Luca Maroni. It is aged in steel barrels and tonneaux for about a year. The result is a Mediterranean label that, starting from its aromas, never skimps in a broad ranges of feelings, displaying a large floral heritage of rose and geranium. Fruity, juicy and iodine on the palate.

Full body, round tannins with a complex aftertaste of ash, smoke, light jam and orange peel. Intense chalk. Drink or hold. Medium to full body, bright acidity and a mineral finish. Tane is a well-executed wine suited for near-term consumption, but it could also see a few more years in the cellar. Drink The Il Frappato line is one of my favorite expressions of this Sicilian grape and I always keep a few bottles at home for informal drinking occasions. Raspberry, white cherry and almond paste compete for your attention and provide a lively and cheerful bouquet. Balsam herb and white chocolate make for interesting background notes.
The vintage is slightly less intense compared to recent releases. The nose offers yellow fruit, almond paste, honey and spices. Aromatic character on the nose with rather herbal notes, restrained fruit. The palate is well structured with medium weight and length.
Nuanced nose of red berries, fine spices and tobacco with discreet wood, the palate has medium weight, rather elegant fruit, rounded with sweet spices, good freshness, hints of ginger and a long supple finish.
Balmy character, discreet spiciness and restrained fruit. On the palate vanilla and balmy notes, medium weight and length, juicy finish. Undoubtedly mauro, but with a certain aristocratic component despite imprecise, probably underestimated winemaking. Cerasuolo di Vittoria A wine that remains vibrant and energetic, with notes of violets and helichrysum, touches of salty Mediterranean herbs and a foundation of black cherries.
Capable of changing pace. Still convincing. The taste is Mediterranean, but without excessive heat, providing a pleasant harmony of notes of marjoram, dried tomatoes and plums in the finish. Beautiful personality. It is the least Sicilian, and can even be a bit unsettling: notes of black currant, pomegranate and raspberry, with fine flavor and a foundation of boxwood.
